Rubén Darío was born Felix Ruben Garcia Sarmiento on 18 January 1867 in Metapa, later renamed Ciudad Dario in his honor. A very talented young man, he began producing poetry at the age of 12. Although he faced various obstacles, Rubén Darío was always a prolific and meaningful writer. Darío received great recognition across Latin America and Spain for his outstanding works. Sadly, he died at the age of 49. Some of his masterpieces include “Cantos de Vida y Esperanza”, “Prosas Profanas”, “Primeras Notas”, “Otonales” and Azul.
As a respected literary figure it is no wonder that a theater was named after Rubén Darío. The Rubén Darío National Theater is considered Central America’s most modern facility. This fine theater sees performances, concerts and exhibitions by local and foreign artists. Rubén Darío Theater was opened in 1969 and managed to survive the earthquake of 1972. Here is where fashion shows, art displays, conferences and other smaller events are hosted. The theater’s Main Hall boasts 1,200 seats, exceptional acoustics and top facilities. Renowned dancers, actors, musicians and singers have performed here. Located on the second floor is the stunning Crystal Room with its exquisite crystal chandeliers, adding sparkle to any event. This room is specially designed for art exhibitions and has ideal lighting for this.
