National Holidays

National Holidays of Nicaragua

Nicaragua certainly has no shortage of national holidays. The country's annual calendar is filled, not only with a large number of national holidays, but also with a certain amount of local holidays that are celebrated only in certain regions. As a Central American nation, Nicaragua enjoys a number of common Central American national holidays. It is also home to a strongly Catholic nation and so many Nicaraguan holidays held to honor saints are celebrated each year.

Holiday celebrations are usually loud and colorful and include fireworks, music, dancing in the streets and parks and parades. If it is a religious holiday the festivities will usually include a float with a statue of the saint in question. Festivities also include large quantities of rum and beer and plenty of laughter and merrymaking. If you’re going to be visiting Nicaragua in time for a Nicaragua national holiday or even a Nicaragua local holiday, make sure you join in on the festivities for a most memorable visit. Below you will find a list and, where possible, a brief description of the event. Keep in mind that sometimes these celebrations change and we may not have had a chance to update them yet.
