Granada, Nicaragua

A 4-day trip I took to Granada, Nicaragua in May 2009. I focused on photographing doorways as is my norm when I do get out of my home town. Granada, Nicaragua, one of the oldest cities in Central America and it's located on the coast of Lake Cocibolca (Lake Nicaragua). The humidity was really a challenge and I'd recommend if you are thinking of traveling there, do it in Nov. through March. People are friendly and really in need of tourism. The ceramic work is gorgeous and there is a lot of great quality to choose from. Styles vary from family owned businesses that have been around for generations, and they sell right on the streets. There are American owned restaurants that have very good vegetarian fare, but all the places to eat are good. The chocolate company, MOMOTOMBO has a shop there where you can taste the MOST amazing chocolate! Liquor infused, the chocolate balls/truffles are made of cocoa that is grown at the base of a volcano. Quite 'smokey' and flavorful by itself. When added to orange, rum, chunks of vanilla & a variety of liquors, it's chocolate that is not available in North America - yet! Music by: Wisin y Yandel I bought at the airport in San Salvador
