We are planning a trip to Nicaragua next spring and will be renting a car to get around. We would also like to drive into Northern Costa Rico. Has anyone had experience in driving a rental car from one country to the other?? Any suggestions?

Car rentals

You cannot take a rental from Costa Rica across the border and I would think it is the same in Nicaragua to Costa Rica. Best to check with the rental co. before planning on driving to Costa Rica. Take the Tico Bus and either rent in CR or take the buses there.

Most rental agencies do not allow you to take a rental across borders into other countries. I would ask your rental agency before going. If you find one that will allow you to cross the border you will find the drive from Managua to Costa Rica a very enjoyable ride. Make sure you do not stop for just anyone along the way. In my experience i have never had a problem and it should be fun for you to take this route. But at the same time be careful and have fun.
