Question

I know, I know...July is the rainy season in Nicaragua. But I'm wanting to go to either San Juan del Sur, Granada, or Leon this summer to learn to speak Spanish and I'm wondering just how rainy is rainy? Will I be able to get out to see the cities or the countryside or the beaches? Does it rain from morning until night or just for an hour or two a day? Any information will be of help. Thank you!

Rain

The rain generally occurs at night. It will rain 30 minutes up to an hour and then shut off. Sometimes there is a shower during the day. There will not be a problem going to the beaches or other outdoor activities. The sunsets are incredible because the clouds produce all sorts of colors. I lived in San Juan del Sur for 18 months. The school is good if you want to be with a group and do their activities. I can recommend my friend who works there. There is also an excellent private one on one teacher who charges $4/hour. I recommend her too. She is good. A homestay is about $60/week. I have many friends down there and can connect you with them. I'd say don't worry about the rains. Just go. You might just fall in love with San Juan. Leon and Granada are very pretty and very hot. The difference is San Juan is more of a village (population 19,000) whereas Granada and Leon are cities. San Juan is very safe. Let me know if you have other question. John

Schools in SJDS

1. My first choice would be a private one on one teacher, Karla Cruz at Karlacruzsjds@yahoo.com. She charges $4/hr.
2. Playas del Sur Spanish School..visit http://www.sanjuandelsur.org.ni click the link.
3. NSS at http://pages.prodigy.net/nss-pmc. Click SJDS. This is the oldest and most expensive. If you do this one ask for Mariel or Vanassa. Starts on Mondays.
4. http://www.goecities.com/spanish_san_juan. Rosa has been around awhile. She does a lot of business. She is good but I'd say she is a better classroom teacher than one on one.

Any of them you can start at anytime except NSS. If you need additional info just let me know. I know you will enjoy SJDS. Happy Trails. sanjuanjohn@yahoo.com
