I am trying to locate people who lived in Siuna (La Luz Gold Mines) in the early 1950's. I am Canadian and my parents and I spent two years in Siuna. My father managed the commissary for the mine, and sponsored the local baseball team. We were one of only fourteen white families. The Maryknoll Sisters also had a mission there as did several missionaries of different faiths.
I can correspond in Spanish if there are any Nicaraguans who happen to read this. I would like to return to Siuna but have no idea how to arrrange transportation from Managua. There was no road when we lived there. Any knowledge of people or the area would be much appreciated. |

I understand that there is also land transportation, but you can imagine how long it takes. Also, you can navigate this page and will find all that information. My e-mail: vilmabolanos@msn.com vilmabolanos@msn.com and you are welcome to e-mail me. |

Siuna
Gimpy,
I too spent time in Siuna in the mid sixties. I would like to hear from you and others that might have lived there. I too have thought of going back. Siuna and camp life and Nicaragua as a whole had a profound effect on me. Growing up there changed the way I viewed the world. email update
From David Maki
Re: email update New email: david_maki1@hotmail.com My old Apple Computer email is no longer being used as it had no junk mail filter and I was being swamped with junk mail. The same applies to my original Hotmail address as with the junk mail filter on I was unable to recieve any mail that was not containing an address I already had in my address book. This new Hotmail address is brand new. Please don't pass it around as this junk mail problem is a nightmare. Thanks David Maki |
