Hi. My husband and I have traveled to several C.A. countries over the last 5 years and we were just discussing about planning a trip to Nicaragua since you never hear much about the country. Ironically one of the travel magazines that just came out this month has a big article on Nicaragua and how unspoiled and beautiful it is and how Americans have started buying up property there etc.. I have 2 questions
First, can anyone recommend a tour operator to plan a trip? We like nature and adventure and do not like staying in big hotels. We definitely prefer the off beaten path. I don't know if we would feel comfortable enough to rent our own car and do it by ourselves however. We don't like to stay in one place because we like to see the volcanos, rainforests and beaches. The second question is regarding buying real estate in Nicaragua. Where or who would we start to investigate this. We have been talking for years about buying a little chunk of property in C.A. but the prices have really gone up in most of the countries and we are just regular people making very average incomes. Also, in the article it mentioned several times that Nicaraguans like gringos and that it is safe but I guess I can't help but wonder if it is considered the 2nd poorest country in this hemisphere, is it really safe for gringos to go buying realestate? Thanks! |

Hi Salsa,
What travel mag was it? I'd be interested to read it - not that I could buy any property, but we're going on a trip there in June to do teacher training in a rural school and bring school supplies. I'm trying to read up on Nicaragua as much as possible. Thanks! |

![]() ![]() ![]() I'm going back in july ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But I am going back to my home country to see my girlfriend. Oh, I know I was born United Stateian and should probably call it my home country because for the time beeing I do still have my citizenship there. and I am Unfortunatly 100% white (red headed the worst kind when it comes to sun burns But well I just can't help but feeling more at home there than here. Really can't wait to migrate down there and have lil' nicaragüensecitos But for the time beeing I have to finish getting my degree ¡AH! Then stay another year to pay off my loan ![]() But then I can go down there and teach english as a second language ![]() ![]() Not that I particularly like the language (English that is) Just happen to be pretty good at it (unfortunatly still a little better than spanish but I will change that) and well I guess it can be a marketable skill down there. ON account of those gringuitos they want to do business with.

If you want to buy property in Nicaragua, go through a reputable realtor or go to JGiraldez. He is Nicaraguan and can negoiate for you. He also knows a good tour operator there. Make sure you have a clear title through an attorney and ask for title insurance which you now can get. If you want to buy a timeshare you can call me. My Nica partner and I bought in land in 1993.

future property owner in Nica
I have also been thinking about buying property in nicaragua and have checking out sites trying to get an idea, i plan to go out there later this year or the beginning of the next year and plan to check it out first hand.....i read the travel magazine but i also understand its difficult to buy property out there living here, i want to buy property as a vacation home and hopefully retire there someday. That is what i need to find out, about legal aspects of owning property and how to go about it.
Thanks. |
