Eastern Nicaragua

Greetings,

I am trying to locate folks who have traveled or lived in the eastern
regions of Nicaragua. I'm planning an extended stay there myself and could
use whatever information and advice you have to offer. My particular
interests are the Corn Islands, the Cayos Miskitos cays, the local Garifuna
and indigenous Native America communities, river travel inland, and
exploring the area's seemingly abundant natural beauty. I also have safety
concerns considering the scattered reports of bandit activity in that area.

I have done extensive web searches and explored all the links they provided
as well as reading what books are relevant. What I would really like to do
now is chat with folks who live in that area or have experienced it first
hand.
