I am looking for specific information on hiking Madera on Ometepe -- where is the trail head, how many miles is it, what is the typical hiking time, etc? Would like to hike it in early July.

Thumbs up Omotepe, Volcan Maderas

Maderas is a way cool trek. I own a kayak tour outfitter business in Costa Rica and take tourists paddling in Lake Nicaragua and Omotepe is my favorit destination in Nicaragua. Maderas is best sumited with a guide. They are very cheap and the experience is so rich. Take plenty of power bars and water. It is a very physical hike and you'd better be in very good shape for this one as this is an all day trek and very physical. Let me know how you did.
