On the pacific shoreline, is approximately 65 kms south of Managua, it is the most popular beach resort in Nicaragua because of the safety and beauty of the beaches. There are several important tourist facilities which can easily accomodate the thousands of vacationers who either stay for a few days, or simply visit the beach, specially during the dry season.
INTUR, the Nicaraguan Tourism Institute, has remodeled the area and added important facilities to accomodate both, local and international tourists. Offshore fishing is excellent, specially around the nearby port of Masachapa, where excellent supplies of mackerel, sea bass, and flounder are at the top of the list. On certain nights of the year turtles use the beach to lay their eggs. |
