When Lazarus was resurrected his corpse was already stinking. The molecules of the body were part of the other elements in environment.Every fistful of years your molecules change and if you check your last photographs you can realize though the shape of the body changed, you're still you, and you know changes will keep on coming. If some part of your body is lost, it's still you. Therefore we are not just the body. Hence, even the resurrection of Lazarus meant a re-creation of lost elements and that word "recreation" appears in New Testament regarding the things God will do in the future, new Earth and new Heaven.
Eclesiastes 12;6,7 tells the spirit returns to the Father and we can think may be something like electric energy (just an example) acting differently depending on the specific "body" ( a lamp, fan, tv, oven, DVD, etc).
When they asked John the Baptist if he was Eliah, he said honestly "I am not", John 1:21. He didn't have the "soul" of Eliah but the 'spirit' and this can be interpreted in different ways, perhaps the mission or purpose. Usually the ones who believe in re-encarnation mention the text when the disciples ask about the man who was born blind, if he sinned or his parents. It's not relevant the disciples' mistake but the Master's answer: "neither he sinned nor his parents".
