Dear New Friends in Nicaragua,
I am a retired High School principal in New York. Two of my adult sons are going to Nicaragua very soon to help children in an orphange. Their love for the children and their desire to help them has inspired me to become involved with Nicaragua and its wonderful people. I am trying to organize an exchange between my community and a Nicaragua community of a similare size. As part of the plan, I will also be organizing (hopefully!), a massive pen pal activity which will involve many different people of our communities who may wish to volunteer. I envision a total community involvement!!! Hopefully involved will be (among others): students at all levels, businessmen , professional people, clergy, merchants, newspaper people, service club members, medical personnel, athletes - anyone wishing to be involved in our challenging and exciting project. Even ----the Mayor of Managua and the President of Nicaragua!!!!! You may think the latter idea is ridiculous but if successful we will profit from much publicity!!! We must be bold and creative if we are to create a vehicle for Nicaragua-USA friendship!!! Anyone who would like to assist with the project at the Nicaragua end, please contact me at : Peopamb@cs.com LONG LIVE NICARAGUA-USA FRIENDSHIP !!!! Your American friend, Bill Kupec |

Dear Friends,
Bill Kupec (Tornado) is very unhappy because of the lack of response to a plan for creating Nicaragua-USA friendship through an exchange program. Perhaps the isea was too complicated. Perhaps I appeared to be a suspicious gringo. I assure you that I have a love for Nicaraguan people and have a great desire for friendship and understanding between our countries and people. Now, here is a new approach. First read my plan in my other message (TORNADO). Maybe we can build the idea around BASEBALL. You are baseball fans. I am, too. I have been a New York Yankee fan since I was a child. Let's now create our exchange program around baseball and ultimately visit each other's baseball facilities. I am sure that there are Nicaraguan baseball players in thr USA who will help. LONG LIVE NICARAGUA AND ITS WONDERFUL PEOPLE !!! LONG LIVE BASEBALL !!! LONG LIVE OUR HOPE FOR NICARAGUAN-USA FRIENDSHIP !! In great friendship, Tornado |

Hi Bill:
I just returned from Nicaragua after a month away from my "other" home in So.Cal; thus, I just read your message. Your idea sounds very good, but I would like to remind you that internet is NOT very popular in Nicaragua for the simple fact that not too many nicaraguans have a PC, let alone access to the net. I can assist you by trying to have the newspaper La Prensa, to publish your request/idea on their "informatica" section. I can't make any promesses. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to let us know, anyone here will try to help. I check the site whenever my obligations so allow. Hasta luego. |

Dear Luciano.
Thank you for your reply and interest. I remain grateful. Although disappointed, I fully understand the problem with communication, expecially since PCs are a scarcity. I am hopeful that the baseball theme will attract some interest in the newspaper. Is it at all possible for me to write an aericle to be included in the sports section of the newspaper?? Here again, I guess that communication via translation might be a problem. I maintain a deep desire to develop a relationship with the Nicaraguan people through an exchange. Incidently, my two boys returned from their mission to the orphanage and fell in love with the children!! There is a possibility that they might adopt two of the little ones. God works wonders in strange ways!! Stay well. Regards, Tornado |
