Howdy,
I will be moving to Nicaragua for good (Leon) in January and want to ship some things down in a container but I´m wondering if it´s worth it. Is it possible to get just part of a container? What charges are there for getting the stuff into the country, I´ve heard 15% of the value, but how is the value determined? Will it be ridiculously expensive since I´ll be shipping from the east coast of the US to the west coast of Nicaragua? I´d appreciate any advice or information you can give me. Thanks a lot. |

The only info I have for you is that when I went there for my missions trip we had containers traveling with us on the airplanes and we didn't have to pay anything, but when we got them back they were busted and they had been gone through and things were missing from them so I would be careful of how you pack them and make sure that they are very very durable containers! I hope I have been of to some help??!! However I can find out more info for you if you need anything because my close friends moved there for 3 years so they would know about things like that!

Partial containers are much more expensive than full comtainers. A 20 foot container is around $2100 to managua a 40 foot container is about $2350. Duties are variable and depend on the value the customs official puts on the goods and this can be negociated. Cars if under 4 liters are 25% of blue book value. The trip for the goods from managua to the west coast shouldn't cost you much, but thye will unload the container in Managua usually. Where on teh west coast are you moving. We have a beach house on the coast.
