Can anyone tell me what they know about a foreigner moving to nicaragua. I am looking for information on gaining nicaragua citizenship, so i could live and work in the country.

How big a disadvantage would it be that my spanish is currently very poor, though i am well educated with a Bachelor and Masters Degree.

Thanks

Smile Hey neurofase!

About the citizenship I don't know anything, but concerning the Spanish: maybe in the beginning it will be a little bit difficult, since most people don't understand english, but I'm sure you will learn very quickly! Spanish isn't that difficult after all and I'm sure people will be happy to help you, since they are really friendly!
Good luck!

I hoping to learn as much as i can before i go, and what i dont know (which will be alot) i hope to pick up through the virtual total submersion in the language. The women i am moving there for is total bilingual and she will be able to help. I am just finding it really hard to find out the information, without letting her know. its supposed to be a surprise.

Smile What a nice surprise for her!

I'm sure she will be really happy!
And if you have someone bilingual there to help you, it will be even more easy for you to learn the language. My first contact with Spanish was a little bit more difficult: I was staying with people that understood only spanish and I didn't even know how to say 'hola' at that time, but I think that if you are forced to speak it, you learn it very quickly!
I'm sure you will love Nicaragua!

The first time I went to Latin America

it was for a month and a half and I must say that in the end I could make myself understandable and I understood people quite well if they talked slowly enough. But I speak french too, so maybe that made it a little bit easier, since the two languages are quite similar. But really, I wouldn't worry too much if I were you! You will be surprised about how quickly it goes!!
