Saludos a todos!
I'm moving to Nicaragua in September as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, went to college in Vermont, lived in Chile for a year (espanol fue mi especialidad), and have lived in New York city for the past two years. I really don't know much about Nicaragua other than the whole Iran-Contra scandal. Anyone want to give me pointers about living in Nicaragua? One more thing...I'm 100% Chinese, so I want to know how diverse Nicaragua is - cuando viaje en Sudamerica - Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, y Bolivia, todos me llamaban "la chinita". No creo que puedo evitarlo, pero igual, quiero saber si es facil asimilar a la sociedad nicaraguense. I'd love to hear from all of you! Kang |

Hey Kung; wassup?
Cool, if you visit Nicaragua, te va encantar, si llegas Nicaragua es como que llegues a cualquier pais LatinoAmericano. Te van a llamar tambien CHINITA por Cariņito, TU SABES ESO. Anyway, there are a lot of stuff to visit and learn from nicaragua. The people, if you meet the humble people you are like you are at home. Go visit the North of Nicaragua, it cool if you go WEST it's warm to hot like in LEON, CHINA-NDEGA sounds familiar? Anyway if you go SOUTH it's cool too. From Managua I am talking about, MAANAGUA in summertime it's hot Jan-May 10-15, From MAY 20- DEC it's much cooler. there are only two seasons, SUMMERTIME AND RAINING SEASON. and it RAIN hard, harder than in the U.S.A. and it's hot and hotter than the ARIZONA DESERT. in summertime. Go visit MASAYA, GRANADA, RIVAS SAN JUAN DEL SUR This is to the south-east of Managua, Also you can visit Leon, Chinandega, this on the WEST coast of Managua. p.s if you visit Nicaragua, take credit card, poquito cash no more than 100.00 dls in cash. if you need cash, go the ATM's and you can get CORDOBAS but withdrawl as liltle as possible. do no carry too much cash. There are over 100 ATM's all over Nicaragua. Ok keep all your receipt with you, don't throw them away. Always go out with someone to keep you company, ok. if you have more question...email me at Monslez@nicaragua.com take care and good luck. |

My pointer to you chinita is:
Learn how to use Vos instead of Tu, and you will be able to blend in beautifully. Do not use vosotros, just use vos instead of Tu as in vos sos chinita instead of Tu eres chinita. It is widely used in Nicaragua, and a lot more common in Centroamerica than in any other Spanish speaking countries.........maybe with the exeption of Argentina. Be honest and kind to peple and do not put down anyone, just be respectful and if you have a sense of humor, don't be afraid to laugh out loud, that is very well liked over there. If you want to visit Jinotega, which is a city on the North side, e-mail me at Blanca1312rivera@aol.com and I'll tell you all I know about the city and maybe you'll want to get to know the beautiful places I visited as a child. I hope your stay turns out to be very positive for your life and future and that you learn to love the country all Nicaraguans cherish so much. Good luck in your travels and god bless....
