Do you know any of the Barcenas, Barcenas-Levy or Velez families? We lost touch when my mother died. She was Maria=Teresa Barcenas Wylie. I was born in Managua, later moved to Glasgow Scotland then Zimbabwe. My uncle was Camilo and aunts were Carmen,Margarita and Amanda.

Barcenas

My grandmother is a Barcenas, she was born in New Orleans Louisiana and her father was born in Managua, he immigrated the the US and became a consolate to Nicaragua. Her grandfather was Don Jose Barcenas. That's all I personally know about the family, I'm sure my grandmother knows a great deal more.

Hello and thank you for the info on Barcenas. I vaguely remember my mother mentioning a " tio Jose " but I think he was my grandmothers brother which would make his surname Bermudes (Bermudez ? )My generation, now getting on a bit,are Jacinto, Roberto, Irene and Peggy Velez. Camilo Barcenas-Levy..who also had many brothers and sisters and one cousin, Charles son of Gustavo Barcenas.
I would also like to know if someone can give me the address of the registrar of births for Manangua, my birth cetificate is getting very fragile and will need replacing.
Thank you, and greetings to you all
Jean

HI:
I wish I could be of more help to you regarding the Bárcenas family, but will tell you this much; there is a Jacinto Vélez Bárcenas in MAnagua, as a matter of fact, I saw him just about four weeks ago while I was having lunch with a mutual friend, unfortunately I don't know how to contact him, I even checked his name in the phone directory to no avail.
I can suggest you contact the La Prensa newspaper, one of the owners and former President Violeta Barrios is a member of the Bárcenas family, they may be able to help.
regarding your birth certificate, that is handled by El Registro Civíl de las Personas, in the city in which you were born; in Managua their phone number is 265-2249; OR ... you may want to contact the nicaraguan consulate in your area, for more info on this, access http://www.CANCILLERIA.GOB.NI
Good luck.

and
2-(a) Martín Bárcenas Levy: Los Altos de Santo Domingo, de la Estatua 1 cuadra al Norte y 1 cuadra Arriba. Managua.

Again, good luck.

Hi Luciano
Thank you for the info.about my family and where I can get a new B.certificate.
The Barcenas Levy names you found are my cousins. I never met them as they were born after my mother, brother and I left Managua for Scotland. I have photos of them as babies sent to us by their father my uncle Camilo Barcenas.
It makes me feel good to know that there are some of my blood in Nicaragua, the country that will always be in my heart.
So again many thanks for your trouble. I will get in touch with them.
Jean
p.s my Spanish is very rusty!!

Post Barcenas

I was searching the website to conform an address for a Margarita Barcenas from Nicaragua, when I stumble across your search for the Barcenas family from Nicaragua.

My father was Cerna-Barcenas and my grandmother was Barcenas both past away in 1998… I have an address for a Margarita Barcenas who lives in Georgia, US. I am not sure if they are the same family, but some of the information posted on the website sounds little familiar to me. Thanks
