Good Morning Dr. Foster,SOSGroup & Nicaragua.com

Thank you so much!

I have several Doctors that work for two of the most prominent private Hospitals in Managua.
(One actually sees the president on occasions) Yes, the clinic will be for children and their mothers. (Mothers to be I should mention as well) It will be categorized as a general medical clinic, as well as a pediatric clinic. We will focus on children and their mothers. We have a General practice surgeon and a gynecologist/surgeon at the moment. They are both personal friends of mine and are willing to see as many patience's as needed. Mostly on Sundays and in the evenings on the weekdays when the patient is off from work and or after they have concluded their church services. I am working closely with two Priests. (One in Managua and the other in Masaya, 27 Kilometers south of Managua.)

I am planning on going down to Managua to workout the permits and speak to the US embassy on a related matter, but as far as transport, we can get free shipping from an Georgia based trucking Company called ESTES. They have delivered to me here in Miami, various types of medical equipment. The last shipment I received were 27 wheelchairs, seven of them electric. We issued them to handicapped persons at the suggestion of the Doctors that treated the patients. As far as transport to Nicaragua, I can use TACA or Fine Air which just charges me document fees. Their cargo managers are both ex-employees of mine from the 80's and will care for the equipment until we retrieve it from the Customs warehouse.

With reference to the Bloodwork machine, I will get you the name of it. The doctor that will run it has a Clinic that specializes in this type of field and is highly trained on the specific machine that he needs for our tests on these children. (He and I met at an Orphanage, as I was delivering a few pallets of formula and he was taking blood samples from the children that were sick.)

With reference to the needs, I am sure we will need a lot more, but we need to start small. I am arranging the remodeling of the building the clinic will be housed in.

Thank you for your generosity, I thank you for your support. I also have a retiring Gynecologist father-in-law that wants to start visiting the country and treat cases in remote areas. (But this is another story) He has pledged to help as well.

I know I am tackling a large project for one person, but with the help and assistance from friends like you, we should be up and treating in no time., meanwhile the children are being seen at the two private Hospitals (free of charge) on a standby bases. (The owners of the hospitals are not to happy with that arrangement so I think it best to form something of our own.

Thank you Steve and Cindy. I'll get you the name of the machine as soon as possible.

I have most of the pieces of equipment you need. There is no cost, but give me a few days to determine how it is best to ship these items. I have a suggestion--If the U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua will assign this task to the logistics officer in the Mil Group or military attaché's office we would have no problem sending this by plane on a military channel flight--probably out of Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia.

Can you find out the name of the blood testing machine--I have several types and will happily send whichever type they are able to utilize in the clinic--i.e. they need trained personnel and need the ability to purchase the specific types of chemical needed in Nicaragua.

So we have the exam tables, we

We have IV poles and Intravenous infusion pumps and also have some IV fluid solutions that do not expire until 2003.

Is it a general medical clinic, a pediatric clinic or what type?

If your medical personnel can send me a list of their needs we will make certain that we get what they need.

Your representative, Lincoln Diaz-Baillart may also be able to get some press out of making this happen. The program is called the Denton Program and it works better in non-emergent,non-disaster situations than it does during true crises. I am going to separate the items for this clinic from those other items in the warehouse and await a full list from your clinic personnel.

It is a good thing you are doing, Jorge. I am proud to be allowed to assist.

Steve
