I am interested in maybe moving to Nicaragua and starting a business but at a loss to what kind of business to start.
I am looking at the San juan del sur area. I now own a private telephone company in upstate NY. I am not tied down to the SJDS area but want to stay out of Managua area.
Any ideas???????????????? out there

SAn Juan...

San Juan de Sur is a great place to start a business, make sure you get part of the beach scenery. But, If you like other ideas check out Granada for hotels, bars and restuarants. Masatepe or Catarina( el Mirador) for nature seen horseback rideing, hiking and climbing. Masatepe is nothing big but if you let some natives take you to the back of the town or Nimboha then you can see the masaya volcano from afar( beautiful) there is lots of people from miami buying land there for hotel resorts. One of them is former miami commisoner Reboso. ;-) For beaches check out el popoyo by Sanjuan, this place is fairly new but is picking up fast because of sufers and good waves. Little Corn Island on the Atlantic for scuba diving and water fun activities. Then there is a fairly nice place called la boquita and Casares on the Pacific that have small businesses such as hotels but nothing that will affect your business in a negative way. Mostly what Nicaragua offers is for tourism, but I have known people who go there to farm beans and corn. ( a way to relax from the big city) Its your choice. Remember that the economy in Nicaragua is about the same as Costa RIca's economy about 20 years ago. The good or positive thing is that once you have something in Nica just be paitent and maybe youll win the lottery just like the investors in Costa Rica did. GOOD LUCK

future buiness

In about two weeks i will be on my way to nicaragua to start a small business also. I just wanted to know the situation of nicaragua from someone that is actually in nicaragua at this time. Ive seen on tv that there were some protest and civil unrest a week or two back and i wanted to know if things have calmed down. I am stating my own hauling/dumping and bobcat rental company. I have a lot of equipment in nicaragua and im worried to see buses being burned in the streets. Was this something that only took place in the capital? Thank you for your reply.
