Nature reserves are formed to conserve and sometimes rehabilitate certain coastlines or terrestrial regions. This is the case with the Wawashang Nature Reserve in Nicaragua. It is located near the small town of Pueblo Nuevo, which is greatly dependant on agriculture as its source of income and employment. Some of the inhabitants of this area live in settlements on the borders of the Wawashang Nature Reserve, and are being educated on the dangers of deforestation and incorrect agricultural practices.
Enjoy the Beauty of Santa Lucia
The town of Santa Lucia is the capital of the Boaco Department in Nicaragua. It is approximately ninety four kilometers from the city of Managua and has an estimated population of ten thousand residents. Santa Lucia is a town that relies mostly on the agricultural sector to produce an income and has just over two thousand farmers in the area. As with many cities and towns in Nicaragua, Santa Lucia has a rich history and has retained most of its culture and small town traditions.
El Castillo del Cacao
Just outside the city of Matagalpa, on route to La Dalia, is the El Castillo del Cacao. From its hillside location, the El Castillo del Cacao has magnificent views of the landscapes below. Even though it is a castle, it is not home to nobles or kings, but is home to one of the most famed chocolate factories in Nicaragua. The massive structure has been built from all the building materials typically used in constructing a castle, but this one holds the secret to delicious handmade chocolate.
Discover Domitila Private Wildlife Reserve
Tropical dry forests are rapidly disappearing in Central America and are considered to be highly endangered ecosystems. Domitila Private Wildlife Reserve, located in the heart of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, is one of the two remaining dry tropical forests in Nicaragua. Biologically there is as much flora and fauna to discover in a tropical dry forest as there is in a tropical rain forest, and new species are still being discovered all the time in this fragile ecosystem.
Casa de los Tres Mundos
Granada, in Nicaragua, is home to a vital and significant foundation named Casa de los Tres Mundos. It is an organization that was established as an arts and culture centre, but has grown to become a centre that has evolved into a community program for all. When Hurricane Mitch struck, the rural community of Malacatoya was devastated. Casa del los Tres Mundos became the financial crutch for the new Malacatoya settlement, given the name of Los Angeles. This rice growing community now has a new future to look forward to and it is through the work done with the poor and destitute that creates brighter tomorrows and restores hope, where it once was lost.
