Guardatinaja – A Unique Creature in Nicaragua
One of Nicaragua’s smaller and rarer creatures is the diminutive little Guardatinaja (Agouti paca) which may be found scuttling around through the forest undergrowth. These small rodents are quite colorful when compared to other rodents yet their speckled bodies help them to blend seamlessly with their natural environment.
The White-headed Capuchin
By now most people recognize the familiar face of the White-headed Capuchin (Cebus capucinus) as having appeared in a number of movies, advertisements, and television commercials. Fans of the TV Series ‘Friends’ will recognize ‘Marcel’ and those who have seen ‘Outbreak’ will perhaps remember this friendly little chap, albeit in a less positive light.
“El Macua”: Nicaragua’s Emerging Signature Drink
Many countries including Mexico, Cuba and Russia have one thing in common: Each has a national cocktail that they can truly say represents their country and their culture. This is where Nicaragua falls short. It may have folk music and delicious varieties of food that is one hundred percent authentic Nicaraguan but when it comes to drinks there is every type of cocktail you can think of except for one that represents this country.

Nicaraguan Wild Felines
It isn’t difficult to understand why the imagination is so easily captivated by cats. Even the common domestic cat has a certain mystery to it – an allure that cannot quite be pinpointed. Their incredible gymnastic ability, suppleness and stealth are all qualities that continue to fascinate mankind. Wild cats are even more intriguing – mainly because so little time is spent in contact with them.
